Trichopterae
In a number of outdoor creek adventures, I’ve come across the small aquatic critters known as the Caddis Fly, or more accurately the larvae of the fly. Inevitably, I’m looking for something else, fish, snails, you name it, and I notice what seems to be a stick moving across the surface of a rock. I want to call them bugs, but they don’t fit in…They seem closer to a crustacean to me. The larvae of the Caddis species seems uncomfortable within the confines of any classification.
Some other artist beat me to the brilliant idea of using their natural habit of building a shell around themselves for protection as a way to incorporate the larvae in an artistic collaboration.
